The Palgrave Macmillan Transnational History Series aims to develop scholarship on the transnational connections of societies and peoples in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It provides a forum in which work on transnational history from different periods, subjects, and regions of the world can be brought together in fruitful connection, and explores the theoretical and methodological links between transnational and other related approaches such as comparative history and world history.
Just some of the highlights in the series follow but watch this space for news of more titles in the coming months.
The Transnational Unconscious Edited by Joy Damousi and Mariano Ben Plotkin January 2009 A collection of essays approaching the history of psychoanalysis from a transnational perspective examining the factors that contributed to turn psychoanalysis into one of the systems of beliefs that defined the Twentieth century. The Idea of Humanity in a Global Era Bruce Mazlish January 2009 The result of a lifetime of research and contemplation on global phenomena, this book explores the idea of humanity in the modern age of globalization. Tracking the idea in the historical, philosophical, legal, and political realms, this is a concise and illuminating look at a concept that has defined the twentieth century. "If, in the course of this century, homo sapiens fail to identify himself/herself with all of humanity (rather than with political ethnicity or religious exclusivity), a global catastrophe is likely. Mazlish’s timely work is a signal that a profound redefinition of our collective identity is now urgently on the agenda." --Zbigniew Brzezinski For more information on this title click here.
